William J. Clinton Presidential Library and Museum Distinguished Speaker Series

The William J. Clinton Presidential Library and Museum in Little Rock, Arkansas, regularly hosts thought-provoking conversations through its Distinguished Speaker Series. In partnership with the Clinton Foundation and the Clinton School of Public Service, the series features historians, public figures, authors, and leaders who explore issues at the intersection of American history, leadership, and modern-day challenges.

AUDIENCE: 100 Community members

LOCATION: William J. Clinton Presidential Library and Museum, Little Rock, Arkansas

CHALLENGE:  Community members facing uncertainty and change sought guidance on setting meaningful goals, staying motivated, and overcoming the personal and societal roadblocks that can keep people stuck.

CARA BROOKINS’ SOLUTION:

  • 60-minute stage interview with her four children: Hope Brookins, Drew Brookins, Jada Brookins, and Roman Prickett

  • 30-minute audience Q&A

  • Book signing with attendees

  • Full evening of community engagement and informal follow-up

As part of the Clinton Library’s Speaker Series, Cara Brookins brought her powerful story to the stage, this time with a unique twist: a live interview alongside her four children. Together, they recounted the extraordinary journey of building their own home from the ground up after escaping domestic violence, offering an intimate, multi-generational perspective on resilience, determination, and what it really means to rebuild.

The stage interview format created space for candid dialogue, with each family member contributing their insights on facing fear, setting audacious goals, and staying unified under pressure. Their story resonated deeply with the audience, leading into a 30-minute Q&A that expanded the conversation around perseverance, family dynamics, and personal reinvention.

Following the program, Cara and her children stayed to sign books, meet guests, and continue the conversation during a full evening of informal engagement. The event left a lasting impression on attendees, offering not only inspiration, but also tangible hope that even the most daunting challenges can be met: brick by brick, step by step.
